Joseph Khalil Aoun (/aʊn/; Arabic: جوزيف خليل عون), born January 10, 1964, is a Lebanese politician and army general who has served as the 14th president of Lebanon since 9 January 2025. He has previously served as the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, and is the fifth commander elected president.

Appointed as commander-in-chief of the LAF on 8 March 2017, replacing Jean Kahwaji
Under his leadership, the army conducted operations against ISIS and other militant groups, notably the Jroud Dawn Operation in August 2017 to expel militants from border strongholds.
In his inaugural address, he pledged to fight corruption, organized crime, sectarianism, and called for reforms in judiciary, administration, and public morality.
He has also emphasized that the Lebanese state should have a monopoly on arms (i.e. disarmament of non-state militias) and reaffirmed state sovereignty over border control.
